Metric measurements

There’s a saying that goes, “the good thing about standards is that there’s so many to choose from.” Perhaps none more so that the metric measurement system, and non-metric, such as US Imperial Units.

Humazing, at the moment, only accepts metric measurements. For example, tallest tower 1.91 metres. With so many visitors now coming to the site from the Northern hemisphere we are planning entry of measured outcomes in both metric and US units (eg, feet, inches, etc).

The captain has turned on the seatbelts sign..

Been a crazy week on the site, updates galore. Traffic is starting to climb and in the spirit of let-it-loose-and-see-what-breaks some issues have surfaced. Fear not, just like whack-a-mole (geez, hit my hypenated word count already) squashing them as they surface.

Biggest headache this week was the image upload to the php box. Been running into php script timeouts and memory limits on the image resizing. Should be right-as-rain now (sorry, could help these hyphens).

The php box? Yeah - the main site runs on asp.net v2 and the statics runs on another php/*nix box.

Search is still being funky. Not quite there yet. Like i said, life is beta.

Introducing the slimmer Humazing

We’ve been getting heaps of feedback on the initial launch - thank you to all who have provided feedback.

The main area for improvement so far has been simplicity. We have dramatically simplified the record creation process, and the uploading an attempt process. Whereas before it was a multi-step wizard, it is now pretty one step each.

How did we streamline the process? We consolidated the proof requirements and rules & guidelines into the description, and eliminated the Be the Judge component.

Now, when a new record is created it is ‘live’ straight away. What’s more, uploading an attempt is also live after the photo or video proof has been uploaded.

So where has the judging process gone? We will be adding some options on the record page to flag a record. A record can be flagged as Spam, Inappropriate or Outcome Disputed. This means that the judging process is now based on exceptions, rather than the rule.

To celebrate the streamlined process we have also update the user interface - cleaner, simplified and with tabs for primary navigation. Hope you enjoy!
